Madenah Spearmint

Madenah Spearmint is a distinctive natural aromatic material produced from spearmint cultivated in Al Madinah Al Munawwarah, Saudi Arabia. The fresh botanical material is sourced from Madinah and then brought to our facility in Makkah, where we distill it ourselves, giving this material a clear local identity that connects its agricultural origin in Madinah with its production in Makkah.

Its scent profile is fresh, green, minty, sweet, herbal, and softly cooling. The opening immediately evokes freshly crushed spearmint leaves, with vivid green freshness and a naturally sweet mint character. Beneath the initial freshness are nuances of green leaves, aromatic herbs, gentle spice, and a slightly warm sweetness, giving it a rounder character than the intense icy effect usually associated with peppermint.

The distinction between Spearmint and Peppermint is particularly important. Spearmint is generally characterized by a sweeter, greener, softer and less aggressively cooling mint profile. Peppermint, by contrast, typically provides a much stronger mentholic, cold and penetrating sensation. For the perfumer, this means Spearmint can introduce a recognizable mint character while remaining easier to integrate into citrus, aromatic, floral and even fruity compositions.

The characteristic profile of spearmint is strongly associated with carvone, one of its important naturally occurring aromatic constituents. Unlike peppermint, whose cooling identity is strongly associated with menthol, spearmint expresses mint through a more sweet-herbal, green and softly spicy direction. Its complete natural aroma is, of course, created by a broader mixture of volatile constituents rather than carvone alone.

The production identity of Madenah Spearmint is particularly important to us. The mint itself comes from Al Madinah Al Munawwarah, and rather than purchasing the finished aromatic extract, we bring the botanical material to our factory in Makkah and carry out the distillation ourselves. The result is a locally produced natural material with a direct connection to two of Saudi Arabia's most iconic cities.

Freshness is only one side of this material. When evaluated more closely, Spearmint reveals a surprisingly nuanced character: sweet mint leaves, crushed green vegetation, soft aromatic herbs, gentle spice, and a clean natural freshness. This complexity makes it considerably more useful in perfumery than simply creating an obvious “mint fragrance.”

From a functional perspective, Madenah Spearmint works particularly well as a Modifier / Blender. It can introduce freshness, lift heavy structures, sharpen aromatic accords and create contrast against citrus, herbs, florals, spices, tea, woods, tobacco and gourmand materials.

It is particularly attractive in fresh, aromatic, green, citrus, fougère, tea-inspired, herbal, fruity, woody and contemporary unisex compositions. It blends beautifully with bergamot, lemon, mandarin, bitter orange, petitgrain, lavender, clary sage, geranium, coriander seed, cardamom, ginger, pink peppercorn, jasmine, cedarwood, vetiver, tobacco, tea accords, vanilla and musks.

With Lemon, Bergamot and Mandarin, Madenah Spearmint creates a particularly vivid fresh opening. Citrus gives sparkle and juiciness while the mint adds a crisp green dimension, resulting in freshness that feels more botanical and textured than citrus alone.

Its combination with Coriander Seed and Cardamom is particularly interesting. Coriander contributes citrus-spicy warmth, cardamom adds cool aromatic spice, and Spearmint introduces a sweet green freshness. Together they can form an elegant fresh-spicy aromatic accord suitable for modern fragrances.

With Lavender, Clary Sage and Geranium, it fits naturally into aromatic and fougère structures. Used carefully, Spearmint can make these accords feel brighter and greener without turning them into an obvious mint composition.

It can also create beautiful contrast with tobacco and woods. A small amount of Spearmint above cedarwood, vetiver or a dry tobacco accord introduces a flash of green freshness against the darker materials. This contrast can make the entire composition feel more dimensional and dynamic.

In gourmand structures, controlled traces can provide an unexpected effect with vanilla, cacao or chocolate-style accords, recalling the familiar contrast between sweet richness and fresh mint. Here dosage becomes especially important: the objective may be a subtle refreshing contrast rather than an identifiable mint note.

Madenah Spearmint has a clear and recognizable aromatic signature, so careful dosing allows the perfumer to choose between two very different effects: at higher levels, a pronounced fresh-spearmint theme; at lower levels, a green aromatic lift that refreshes the composition without revealing exactly where the effect comes from.
