Description
Syrian Organic Coriander Seed Essential Oil is a refined natural aromatic material obtained from the ripe dried seeds of Coriandrum sativum. Our material has a distinctive production identity: the organic coriander seeds are sourced from Syria as the raw botanical material and then brought to our facility in Makkah, where we distill them ourselves. This combines Syrian botanical sourcing with our local distillation in Makkah.
Its scent profile is fresh, aromatic, sweet-spicy, citrusy, softly floral, and gently woody. The opening immediately evokes freshly crushed coriander seeds, with a bright aromatic freshness reminiscent of citrus peel, followed by a warm and rounded spicy character. As it develops, subtle nuances of soft flowers, dry herbs, gentle woods, and warm spice emerge beneath the initial brightness.
One of the most interesting characteristics of Coriander Seed in perfumery is its position between citrus, aromatic herbs, and spices. It has enough brightness to accompany a citrus opening, yet enough warmth and body to lead naturally toward spices, florals, woods, and the deeper parts of a fragrance.
It is important to distinguish Coriander Seed from Coriander Leaf. Although both come from Coriandrum sativum, their odors are dramatically different. Fresh coriander leaves have a strongly green, leafy, herbaceous character, while the ripe seeds become considerably more sweet, citrusy, floral-aromatic, and spicy. In perfumery, Coriander Seed therefore behaves as an elegant aromatic spice rather than as the familiar smell of fresh cilantro leaves.
The production of our material begins with organic coriander seeds sourced from Syria. Rather than purchasing an already distilled extract, we import the botanical raw material and carry out the distillation ourselves at our facility in Makkah, capturing the volatile aromatic fraction naturally present in the seeds.
This production route gives the material a particularly clear identity: Syrian-grown botanical raw material, transformed through our own distillation process in Makkah into a finished natural aromatic extract.
One of the most important naturally occurring constituents of Coriander Seed is linalool, which contributes significantly to its characteristic fresh, floral-aromatic, softly citrusy, and slightly woody character. The natural extract also contains many additional volatile constituents that provide spicy, herbal, terpenic, and woody nuances, making the complete material considerably more complex than isolated linalool.
Compared with Cardamom, Coriander Seed is generally softer, rounder, and less cool-green. Cardamom provides a more penetrating fresh, green, camphoraceous-spicy lift, while Coriander Seed leans toward a warmer citrus-floral spice character.
This makes our Syrian Coriander Seed particularly interesting alongside our Organic Cardamom distilled in Makkah. Cardamom can provide the cool green-spicy dimension, while coriander fills the space beneath it with citrusy warmth and rounded aromatic spice, creating a sophisticated natural spice accord.
Compared with Clove Bud, Coriander Seed is considerably brighter, lighter, and less phenolic. Compared with Star Anise, it is far less sweet and liquorice-like. This allows Coriander Seed to introduce complexity and spice without imposing an overly heavy, sweet, or immediately recognizable spice signature.
From a functional perspective, Syrian Organic Coriander Seed works particularly well as a Modifier / Blender. Its greatest strength is its ability to create smooth transitions between citrus, herbs, spices, florals, woods, resins, tobacco, amber materials, and musks.
It is particularly attractive in citrus-spicy, aromatic, woody, fougère, chypre, amber, tobacco, leather, incense, and contemporary unisex compositions. It blends beautifully with bergamot, lemon, bitter orange, mandarin, spearmint, cardamom, ginger, pink or black pepper, clove, lavender, clary sage, geranium, rose, cedarwood, sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, frankincense, tobacco, leather accords, tonka bean, and musks.
With Bergamot, Lemon, and Bitter Orange, Coriander Seed creates a particularly elegant transition. Its citrus-like facets reinforce the brightness of the opening, while its warmer spicy side gradually leads the fragrance toward the heart. Rather than simply adding another citrus material, it gives the citrus structure greater aromatic complexity.
With Cardamom, it creates one of the most natural and versatile spice pairings. Cardamom contributes cool green freshness and aromatic penetration, while Coriander Seed adds roundness, citrus-like brightness, and warm spice. The result works beautifully in woody, aromatic, tobacco, and amber compositions.
It is also particularly interesting with our Madenah Spearmint. Spearmint introduces sweet green freshness, Coriander Seed adds citrus-spicy warmth, and Cardamom can be introduced to complete a fresh aromatic spice structure with several levels of temperature and texture.
With Cedarwood, Vetiver, and Patchouli, Coriander Seed acts as an effective bridge from the bright upper part of the fragrance into the dry woody base. Its aromatic freshness gradually gives way to warm spice, allowing the transition toward woods to feel natural rather than abrupt.
With Frankincense, the naturally bright and terpenic qualities of both materials can complement one another beautifully. Coriander adds sweet-spicy warmth while frankincense introduces resinous, mineral and incense-like depth, making the combination particularly attractive in modern incense and woody compositions.
Coriander Seed is also highly useful in tobacco and leather accords. Used carefully, it adds dry aromatic spice and subtle brightness above tobacco leaves, woods and leather materials without introducing excessive sweetness. It can make these darker structures feel more refined and dimensional.
In floral compositions, particularly with Rose and Geranium, Coriander Seed can provide a sophisticated dry-spicy lift. Its subtle floral quality allows it to integrate naturally into the heart while its spicy character prevents the floral accord from becoming excessively soft or conventionally sweet.
Its aromatic personality is clearly noticeable, but generally less dominating than powerful materials such as clove or star anise. At lower levels, it can function almost invisibly as a natural aromatic bridge, while at higher levels its recognizable combination of crushed coriander seed, citrus-like brightness, and warm spice becomes an important part of the fragrance.
The distinctive appeal of Syrian Organic Coriander Seed Essential Oil lies in both its aromatic profile and its production identity: organic coriander seeds sourced from Syria as botanical raw material and distilled by us in our facility in Makkah. The resulting natural material combines citrus-like freshness, sweet aromatic spice, subtle floral nuances, dry herbs, gentle woods, and warm depth, making it an exceptionally versatile ingredient for sophisticated natural and fine-fragrance compositions.
